Common Issues Seen in Diabetics ?

Diabetes is a condition characterized by high blood sugar levels of 126 mg/dL or higher (measured after fasting for 8 hours). This occurs due to a lack of insulin or resistance to the effects of insulin, which prevents the body from properly metabolizing sugars, leading to high residual levels in the bloodstream. Over time, consistently high blood sugar can damage blood vessels, peripheral nerves, and lead to severe complications.

Common Issues Seen in Diabetics.

Many diabetic patients may not eat properly for their condition. They often consume high amounts of carbohydrates and sugars frequently, leading to higher than necessary daily sugar intake.

There Are 2 Types of Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes

More rare, occurring in about 5% of Thai diabetic patients. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas cannot produce insulin. Patients require regular insulin injections to prevent complications from insulin deficiency and extremely high blood sugar, which can lead to sudden loss of consciousness and death. Type 1 diabetes often occurs in children and adolescents.

Type 2 Diabetes

More common, making up 95% of Thai diabetic cases. Usually occurs in those over 40 years old. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas does not make enough insulin and the body develops insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes may not have acute symptoms initially. But if not controlled, it can still lead to dangerous long-term complications. Weight control, dietary changes, and exercise are recommended.
